Where did the spot go?

You can try this with one eye. You can also skip it and still keep the idea.

Cover your left eye.
Look at the plus, not the gold spot.
Move closer or farther until the gold spot slips from view.

If it does not happen, that is all right. The principle does not depend on a perfect demo.

Another way to know this

Inside the back of the eye is a carpet of cells that catch light. One small place has no catching cells, because that is where the optic nerve leaves. It is like a door in a wall of windows. Light can pass through the door. It cannot be gathered there.

Ordinary seeing does not come with a hole you notice. That does not mean one simple trick is filling everything in one single way.
